DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University baseball senior
Zach Michalski has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for June 2018 in recognition of his outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom.
Michalski batted .318 in his final season with the Eagles, compiling 57 hits with 51 RBI, 21 runs, 13 doubles and eight home runs. He finished with a .525 slugging percentage and .376 on-base percentage.
The Belews Creek, North Carolina, product set a modern-era, single-season program record with his 51 runs batted in while leading the Eagles in home runs and ranking second on the team in batting average.
Michalski earned first team all-conference by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and garnered second team all-state honors by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA).
The cleanup-hitting first baseman had 16 multi-hit games and had hit streaks of at least five games on four occasions, including a season-best nine-game hit streak in March.
Michalski was named MEAC Player of the Week on March 26 after batting .438 (7-16) with a team-high seven RBI without a strikeout over five games.
Other highlights included Michalski tallying a pair of three-hit affairs in wins against Iona and Savannah State. Michalski drove in a trio of runs on five occasions, which were all winning performances in showdowns against Wagner, NJIT, Presbyterian, Bethune-Cookman and Savannah State.
Michalski graduated from NCCU in May with a 3.222 cumulative grade point average (GPA). The political science major was a MEAC All-Academic selection. Michalski, who has accepted a position as a HVAC sales technician with a company in Orlando, Florida, is still trying to play some baseball and plans to pursue a master's degree in business administration.
