DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University baseball program hit new heights during the 2018 season with a modern era record 28 wins and the program's first winning record in the same time span.
There were numerous individual and team accomplishments to help the Eagles reach the 28-win mark, and below is a recap of some of the major achievements by the Eagles during the campaign.
2018 NCCU Baseball Team Achievements:
-Won 28 games, the most in the modern-era of the program
-Captured the first winning record in the modern-era of the program
-Received votes in the NCBWA Top-30 poll for the first time
-Set modern-era records with 94 doubles and 292 runs batted in
-Pitchers allowed lowest batting average in modern-era, registered second-most strikeouts with 402, and surrendered second-fewest earned runs allowed with 209
-Offense led the MEAC in doubles, and pitchers led in strikeouts and fewest runs allowed
2018 NCCU Baseball Individual Achievements:

Corey Joyce became the first Eagle to be named MEAC Player of the Year after batting .358 with a .542 slugging percentage and .456 on base percentage, ranking second in the MEAC in each category.

Andrew Valichka voted to CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team

Zach Michalski set a new NCCU single-season RBI record with 51

Corey Joyce set a new NCCU single-season doubles record with 15

Corey Joyce finished top-30 in the NCAA with 27 stolen bases

Carter Williams set a new NCCU single-season total bases record with 100

Devin Sweet set a new NCCU single-season strikeout record with 87, and finished his career as the modern-era NCCU leader in wins (18) and strikeouts (246)
-Sweet threw NCCU's first nine-inning complete game win since 2012 with 12 strikeouts against Savannah State (March 24)
-Four MEAC Pitcher of the Week Awards (Figueroa, Kernen, Sweet)
-Five MEAC Player of the Week Awards (Joyce, Michalski, Valichka, Williams)
