DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University faced tough pitching from Davidson as the Wildcats made a five-run first inning stand up for a 7-0 win at the Durham Athletic Park on Tuesday, May 8.
Davidson (31-16) scored five in the first frame, starting with an RBI walk to put the first run on the board. Brett Centracchio (Alpharetta, Ga.) added a two-run single in the first, before an RBI single in the fifth to finish the contest with three RBI.
Pete Bloomberg (Morrisville, N.C.) scattered three hits over five innings to hold NCCU (27-24) in check, and at one point retired nine consecutive batters. NCCU turned a pair of double plays during the game, and
Evan Holland (Erial, N.J.) knocked a pair of hits with a double.
Corey Joyce (Lexington, N.C.) also notched his 27th stolen base of the year.
NCCU will have one more chance to break the single-season win record on Wednesday, May 9 at home against NC Asheville at 4:00 p.m. at the Durham Athletic Park. Admission is free.
