NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University is fresh off of a weekend sweep over NJIT, and senior
Andrew Valichka (Pedricktown, N.J.) has earned MEAC Player of the Week honors after a strong weekend at the dish.
NCCU has now had a player earn MEAC Player of the Week honors in consecutive weeks to start the season.
Valichka slugged an incredible 1.250 with two home runs and two doubles, and also drove in a team-high six RBI. He held a batting average of .583 with seven hits and four runs scored along with a walk and a stolen base. Valichka spent the first two games of the series hitting in the ninth spot, and from there he picked up four hits and four RBI along with a home run.
This is Valichka's first weekly honor, and the Eagles' second of the season after
Corey Joyce was named MEAC Player of the Week to open the season the previous week.
NCCU will play a pair of midweek games, starting at home against Duke on Tuesday, Feb. 27 before heading to Longwood on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
