DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University tied a Division I school record with 23 steals on the way to a 110-51 win over Christendom on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at McDougald-McLendon Arena.
CC (1-4) started the game hot and led NCCU (3-5) for the majority of the first six minutes of the contest. However, the Eagles flipped the script and rattled off a 27-0 run while holding the Crusaders scoreless for 6:40 to take a 38-15 lead, and didn't relinquish the lead from there.
NCCU turned defense into offense with 68 points off of turnovers, led by
Nicolas Fennell (Bowie, Md.) who notched eight steals to tie for second-most in a game in the Division I era.
Julian Walters (Madison, Wis.) exploded for 21 points, six rebounds and seven assists in his first start with the maroon and gray, and both
Randy Miller Jr. (Odenton, Md.) and
Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) chipped in 18 points apiece.
Zacarry Douglas (Landover, Md.) stayed precise from the arc as he nailed three treys for 16 points.
Ian Heisler (Nokesville, Va.) and Patrick Pennefather (Nokesville, Va.) led the Crusaders with 13 points, and Luke Schultz (San Antonio, Texas) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds with nine points.
NCCU will start the month of December at home against McNeese State on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 4:00 p.m. following the women's basketball contest against Coastal Carolina at 2:00 p.m.
