Eagles Rewrite Record Book in Home-Opening Win over Warren Wilson

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's basketball team tied a school record for most points scored as the Eagles picked up a 123-57 victory over Warren Wilson in the home-opener of the 2018-19 season at McDougald-McLendon Arena on Sunday, Nov. 18.

As NCCU (1-3) tied one record, it broke another as the Eagles connected on 17 three-pointers, surpassing the Division I-era mark of 16, which had been hit twice against North Carolina A&T (Jan. 28, 2017) and Barber-Scotia (Nov. 26, 2013).

The Eagles applied the pressure on WWC (3-5) early as the maroon and gray took a 51-30 lead after the first 20 minutes.  The Eagles picked up six steals in the first half, and finished with a team total of 15.  NCCU also pulled down 54 rebounds, the fifth-most in the Division I era.

NCCU was very efficient on offense, as the Eagles made 62.9 percent of field goal attempts (sixth best in DI era), 60.7 percent of three-pointers (third best in DI era), and 78.3 percent of free throws.

NCCU boasted six players in double-digits in the victory, led by Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) who put up a game-high 23 points and 15 rebounds, and Randy Miller Jr. (Odenton, Md.) followed close behind with 20 points and four made three-pointers.  Zacarry Douglas (Landover, Md.) secured his second double-double of the year with 19 points and 11 boards, and Reggie Gardner Jr. (Bowie, Md.) connected from long-range five times for 17 points.

Rashann London (Philadelphia, Pa.) dished out a joint game-high eight assists to match Julian Walters (Madison, Wis.), and Walters also added 13 points and five rebounds to his ledger.  John Guerra (Cary, N.C.) picked up 10 points of his own for the Eagles.

WWC was paced by Saadiq Johnson (Cedar Grove, N.C.) who put in 10 points and five rebounds, and Justin Storr (Apopka, Fla.) backed him up with nine points and four assists.

The Eagles head back on the road on Tuesday, Nov. 20 to visit George Mason in the final campus-site game of the Emerald Coast Classic before heading to Niceville, Florida to compete in the bracketed portion of the holiday tournament.
