Aissa Muamba won on her Senior Day to highlight play for the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team in a narrow 4-3 non-conference women's tennis loss to visiting Appalachian State University at the NCCU Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon.
Muamba and
Mia Ramic were honored by the NCCU Athletics Department, tennis coaches and teammates before the match. Both players have been four-year starters for the Lady Eagles, playing a combined 145 singles matches in duel competitions so far. Muamba won her 54th career match and Ramic enters the final stretch of the season with 28 career wins.
With the match tied at 3-3, junior McKayla Zupan secured the team victory for the Mountaineers with a dramatic win at No. 6 singles. Zupan won her first set 6-2 but found herself trailing NCCU junior
Lynsey Cover 4-2 in the second set before rallying to win five of the next six games to squeak out the clutch win.
App State (6-10) got on the board first with a pair of 6-2 wins in doubles action to garner the first team point. The Mountaineers added straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles by sophomore Melissa Machado and freshman Rebecaa Morse to set up Zupan's final point.

Jasmine Gabriel started NCCU's scoring with a dominating 6-2, 6-1 win on the fourth court for her fourth win of her rookie season. Muamba used matching 6-3 scores to win in the marquee singles match and sophomore
Jamie Rogers held off her opponent – 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 – in the longest contest of the day to level the team score at 3-3. Muamba (7-5) and Rogers (7-6) lead NCCU with seven singles victories apiece.
NCCU will conclude its regular season with three consecutive non-conference road matches, beginning with a visit to Gardner-Webb University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
