DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University baseball team heads to Charleston Southern University on Tuesday, March 8 before returning to the Durham Athletic Park to host Norfolk State University on Wednesday, March 9 looking to keep up its strong start to the year.
NCCU (7-5) is coming off a week where it posted four wins out of five against Appalachian State, Norfolk State and NJIT.
Thomas Prospero (Batavia, N.Y.) drove in nine RBI over the last five games with a triple and home run to reach a batting average of .389.
Justice Sampson (Lumberton, N.C.) came in from the bullpen to shut the door in back-to-back games and recorded saves against Appalachian State and Norfolk State. He gave up just three hits in four appearances, and struck out four as well.
CSU (6-5) enters its game against NCCU after a three-game series sweep of Massachusetts on March 5-6. Chris Singleton (Goose Creek, S.C.) is currently hitting .390 for the Buccaneers and has driven in a team-high 14 RBI with a homer and four doubles.
NSU (3-8) hosted Wagner for a doubleheader after last facing the Eagles last Wednesday, March 2 and dropped both games. Syeed Mahdi (Odenton, Md.) leads the way for the Spartans at the plate with a .357 batting average and a team-high eight RBI. Mahdi has sent out one home run and has clubbed four doubles for a .524 slugging percentage, and also carries an on-base percentage of .449.
