Aissa Muamba was winning her singles match but was not able to complete the victory when play was stopped in her second set after host Elon University clinched a 4-0 non-conference victory over North Carolina Central University on Saturday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Phoenix improved to 5-8 overall with their third straight win. The Lady Eagles were unable to win for a second straight day in dipping to 1-6.
Muamba cruised to a 6-0 opening set victory but was trailing 3-0 in the second set when her match was halted against sophomore Erica Braschi. It has the potential to be another quality win for Muamba as Brashi had the only winning singles record for Elon entering the dual match.
The Phoenix took the doubles point with 6-3 and 6-1 wins on courts two and three.
Sophomore No. 2 Olivia Lucas (4-8), freshman No. 5 Maria Paraja (4-3) and sophomore No. 6 Kamilla Beisenova (2-3) all won in straight sets to clinch the Elon team victory.
NCCU returns home for a non-conference match against fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) member Howard University on Sunday at 10 a.m.
