Box Score

DURHAM, N.C. – Junior Mia Ramic won her sixth consecutive singles match for host North Carolina Central University in a 5-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women's tennis loss to South Carolina State University on Wednesday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts.

The Lady Bulldogs (2-9 Overall, 2-0 Conf.), who have won 10 of the last 11 MEAC Tournament titles, remained undefeated in the league. The Lady Eagles (3-9, 2-3) were unable to complete a perfect MEAC home slate in 2016 (2-1).

Ramic moved over .500 on the season at 6-5 and is a perfect 5-0 in singles matches against MEAC Southern Division opposition. Ramic knocked off Oleksandra Filippova on court two in straight sets by scores of 6-1, 7-6 (4).

Junior Tamara Jeremic provided NCCU with its other team point at No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 conquest of Carla Petreanu. Jeremic (2-7) leveled her league ledger to 2-2.

The Lady Eagles had a chance in the match but freshman Jasmine Gabriel had to retire due to injury in her third set and both senior Aissa Muamba and sophomore Jamie Rogers lost a set apiece in a tiebreaker.

SCSU got on the board first with 6-4 and 6-1 wins in the second and third doubles matches.

NCCU returns to the court on Saturday, April 2 when the Lady Eagles entertain non-conference Longwood University at 2 p.m.
