Lady Eagles Narrowly Handed First MEAC Loss, 4-3

Box Score

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Senior Aissa Muamba and sophomore Jamie Rogers both won in singles and doubles action for visiting North Carolina Central University in a tough 4-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's tennis road loss at Southern Division rival Florida A&M University on Sunday afternoon.

The Rattlers barely slithered past the Lady Eagles in doubles and then split the six singles matches with NCCU to hold on for the narrowest of victories. FAMU (4-9 Overall, 1-0 MEAC) was playing its first Southern Division match of the season.

NCCU (3-7, 2-1) was unable to stay undefeated in the conference despite strong play from Muamba and Rogers.

The duo leveled their doubles record together at 3-3 after prevailing in the top match by a close 7-5 score. Muamba and Rogers are 2-1 as doubles partners in MEAC play.

Senior Mia Ramic picked up NCCU's first singles win on court three. Ramic (4-5) was leading her second set when her opponent retired due to injury.

Rogers (5-4) added a straight-set win at No. 4 by a 7-5, 6-3 mark. Muamba needed an extra set at No. 1 before getting in the win column by a score of 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.

Muamba has won five consecutive singles matches and Ramic and Rogers have been victorious in their last four matches apiece.

The Rattlers won the final two doubles matches, 6-2 and 6-3, to secure the first team point. A trio of straight-set wins at No. 2, 5 and 6 singles accounted for FAMU's other three tallies.

NCCU continues its swing in the Sunshine State with an encounter at defending MEAC champion Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
