LIVE STATS DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team will open up its 2016 season at No. 5 Oracle/ITA nationally ranked University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. UNC will be providing a live video stream of all six courts along with live stats for those fans that cannot attend the dual match at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
NCCU will be playing its first match under the leadership of new head coach
Tom Schrecengost. The Lady Eagles went 9-15 last year but graduated two players that competed in the upper half of last season's lineup (
Ekaterina Nekrasova and
Rebecca Wood).
Seniors
Aissa Muamba and
Mia Ramic bring veteran leadership into the season having played a combined 120 singles matches in team duals over the past three seasons. Muamba – a three-time All-MEAC honoree – won has a 47-16 career singles record in dual matches. Ramic has 22 career singles wins. Muamba and Ramic have also been doubles partners each of the last two years and have 14 win paired together.
NCCU has six total letter winners on its roster, including underclassmen junior
Lynsey Cover, junior
Tamara Jeremic, sophomore
Jamie Rogers and sophomore
Lauren Mullis. Freshman
Jasmine Gabriel is expected to make her NCCU dual match debut on Wednesday.
The fifth-ranked Tar Heels, who are 4-0 on the season, may potentially move up in the Oracle/ITA national rankings before the first serve is made with a new poll scheduled to be released on Wednesday. UNC hosts UNC Greensboro at 2 p.m. before entertaining the Lady Eagles at 6 p.m.
UNC's lineup features five ranked players in junior No. 6 Hayley Carter, freshman No. 68 Jessie Aney, senior No. 88 Whitney Kay, sophomore No. 94 Cassandra Vazquez and freshman No. 112 Chloe Ouellet-Pizer.
Carter and Kay are No. 2 nationally in doubles, while Aney and senior Kate Vialle boast a No. 16 doubles ranking.
UNC will be providing a separate video feed for each court. The lineups for each court will be determined when lineups are submitted by coaches and then posted on live stats.
