MUAMBA WINS IN LADY EAGLES ROAD LOSS AT ELON

NCCU will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday

ELON, N.C. – Junior Aissa Muamba picked up the Lady Eagles only point as the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team lost a 6-1 non-conference duel match at Elon University on Saturday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
 
The Phoenix improved to 14-7 overall. The Lady Eagles were unable to win a third straight match in dipping to 7-14.
 
Muamba, who also won in doubles with sophomore partner Lynsey Cover, has won six consecutive singles matches to improve to team-best 15-6. Muamba was triumphant playing atop NCCU's lineup defeating Elon's top player in a third-set tiebreaker (6-4, 3-6, 1-0 [10-8]).
 
The victorious Phoenix won the other five singles bouts in straight sets.
 
Muamba and Cover won their middle doubles match 8-4 but Elon had already secured the doubles point with 8-2 and 8-1 wins in the other two contests.  Muamba and Cover took the court together for the first time this season.
 
Freshman Lauren Mullis made her collegiate debut in a duel match on Saturday for the Lady Eagles playing in the No. 6 singles position.
 
NCCU women's tennis will be celebrating senior day in its final regular season match of the season when the Lady Eagles host University of Mount Olive on Sunday, April 12 at 3 p.m.
