EAGLES LOOK TO CONTINUE DEFENSE OF HOME FIELD AGAINST FLORIDA A&M

DURHAM, N.C. – After sweeping a doubleheader from Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina Central University has now won five consecutive games at Durham Athletic Park, and seven consecutive in the city of Durham.  The Eagles will put that record to the test against Florida A&M in a three-game set this weekend.

First pitch of the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. followed by the second game at 4:00 p.m.  The final game of the series will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m.  Admission is free.

NCCU (8-11, 3-5 MEAC) has been led at the dish by senior Eric Kimber (Greensboro, N.C.), who's hitting a team second-best .271, and he also leads in on-base percentage at .362.  The Eagles' pitching staff is ranked as one of the best in the conference with a team ERA of 3.78, good for second behind Savannah State (3.54), but they'll have their hands full as they face off against the reigning MEAC player of the week.

FAMU (7-12, 4-2 MEAC) senior Marlon Gibbs (Orange Park, Fla.) is within the top three of nearly every batting category, notably first in batting average (.382), hits (29), and runs batted in (19) over 19 games and 76 plate appearances.  During the Rattlers' series with Mercer and South Florida, Gibbs hit .545 (12-22) and drove in nine runs, earning himself the player of the week nod.

FAMU currently sits third in the Southern Division, which is the final spot to qualify for the conference tournament, but if the Eagles can take two of the three games of the series, they can move up into that spot from fourth.
