Box Score Box Score

SAVANNAH, Ga. – North Carolina Central University committed two errors in the bottom of the seventh, which allowed the game-winning run to score on a bases loaded walk later in the inning as Savannah State University swept the weekend series from NCCU with a 2-1 victory on Sunday at Tiger Field.

All three of NCCU's hits in the first eight innings came in the top of the second, when the Eagles lit the scoreboard first on an RBI single by Cory Williamson, who drove in James Dey.

Savannah State (9-11, 4-2 MEAC) evened the score in the bottom of the second by plating its only run off of NCCU starting pitcher Devin Sweet, who scattered five hits with five strikeouts in six innings on the mound.

With the score tied at 1-1, the Tigers loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, thanks to two errors and a single. The eventual game-winning run strolled home courtesy of a one-out walk.

NCCU (6-11, 3-5 MEAC) returns to the diamond on Wednesday, March 18 against Maryland Eastern Shore with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. at the Durham Athletic Park.
