TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The North Carolina Central University men's basketball program captured its 30th straight win over a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent by breezing past Florida A&M, 73-48, on Monday night inside the Lawson Center.
Anthony McDonald poured in a game-high 20 points, including four first-half three-pointers, as all five NCCU starters scored in double figures. Senior forward
Jordan Parks contributed 16 points and a team-best eight rebounds, while senior point guard
Nimrod Hilliard collected 13 points, six boards and six assists for the Eagles.
Karamo Jawara added 10 points and six rebounds, and
Dante Holmes notched 10 points with seven caroms.
The Eagles out-rebounded FAMU 43-26 and held the Rattlers to just 31.4 percent shooting from the field (16 of 51).
Florida A&M (1-24, 1-11 MEAC) was topped by Jermaine Ruttley with 17 points and Jorge Rosa with 16 points.
NCCU improves its record to 20-6 overall and 12-0 in the MEAC. This is the third consecutive season the Eagles have reached the 20-win benchmark, which has only happened two other times in program history – 1987-90 under coach Michael Bernard and 1948-51 with coach John McLendon at the helm.
NCCU returns to McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 21 to play Morgan State at 4 p.m., with the Eagles riding the nation's third-longest home court win streak at 32 victories in-a-row.
