DURHAM, N.C. – Senior point guard
Nimrod Hilliard scored a game-high 17 points to lead North Carolina Central University to a hard-fought 58-40 conference victory over Savannah State University on Monday night, extending the Eagles' winning streak inside McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium to 29 games.
Jordan Parks collected 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds to help push the Eagles to their sixth consecutive triumph, while
Anthony McDonald added 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting from long distance.
Karamo Jawara contributed in many ways for NCCU (12-5, 4-0 MEAC), amassing six points, six rebounds, and game-highs of five assists, three steals and three blocked shots.
The lone double-figure scorer for Savannah State (4-12, 0-2 MEAC) was Brian Pearson with 11 points and a team-best five boards.
NCCU tickled the twine to the tune of 51.1 percent shooting from the floor, connecting on 23 of 45 field goal attempts. The Tigers, on the other hand, managed to make only 35.4 percent (17 of 48) of their field goal tries.
Up next, NCCU hits the road to visit Norfolk State on Saturday, Jan. 17 (6 p.m.). The Eagles remain in Virginia to face Hampton on Monday, Jan. 19 (8 p.m.).
