NCCU Sports Network Broadcast LinkNORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University stayed alive in the 2014 MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Tournament on Thursday morning thanks to a 10-5 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore, eliminating the Hawks for the second straight season, and now look for revenge against Norfolk State University in the second loser's bracket contest on Friday, May 16 from Marty Miller Field in Norfolk, Va.
The time of the contest is still up-in-the-air because of impending weather in the Tidewater area. Forecasters are calling for rain all day on Friday with the chance of it clearing up in the evening. Follow @NCCUAthletics to get the latest information on Friday's tournament action.
NCCU dropped their opening game of the tournament to NSU 6-1 on Wednesday, May 14 but left five of its eight runners left on base in scoring position as the Spartans pulled away late in the game to advance in the winner's bracket.
The Spartans fell 10-2 to perennial power Bethune-Cookman behind Keith Zuniga's four hits in seven innings, while the Wildcats led 7-0 after four innings.
Senior Zack Lee (Wilson, N.C.) is enjoying a solid tournament at-the-plate batting .500 (3-for-6) with a triple, two stolen bases, and four RBI as the leadoff hitter for the maroon and gray.
NSU is 12-3 all-time against NCCU including Wednesday's victory, but in last year's elimination game the Eagles ousted Norfolk State 12-6 to become one of the final four teams remaining in the tournament.
The NCCU Sports Network will have full coverage as the Eagles look to keep their championship hopes alive, as play-by-play voice Chris Hooks will call the action live from Marty Miller Field. Check @NCCUAthletics on Twitter or the NCCU Athletics facebook page for the latest schedule updates.
