NCCU gets back to action Wednesday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m.

NORFOLK, VA. – The 2014 MEAC Basketball Tournament has its bracket set and North Carolina Central University now has its course set beginning with its first matchup which will take place following the first-round bye on Wednesday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m. against the winner of the No. 8-seed Howard and the No. 9-seed North Carolina A&T.
 
By virtue of its 15-1 record in conference play, NCCU has earned its first regular season title in the program's young NCAA Division I history.  The 25-5 record is the second-most wins in a season dating all the way back to John McLendon's 1950-51 squad that posted a school record 26-5 record in the regular season.
 
The Eagles have won 17-consecutive ballgames, which is tied for the second-most since the 1987-88 campaign.  Fifth year head coach LeVelle Moton was a freshman on the 1992-93 squad that won 17-straight games and made it all the way to NCAA "Elite Eight".
 
NCCU went a combined 3-0 against both of Wednesday's possible opponents.
 
Men's action starts on Monday with No. 4 Norfolk State taking on No. 13 Maryland Eastern Shore beginning at 6:30 p.m.  Savannah State (No. 5) faces off against South Carolina State (No. 12) at 9 p.m. to end the first day of competition.
 
Hampton earned the runners-up trophy with a 12-4 record and will face the winner of the No. 7 Coppin State vs. No. 10 Bethune-Cookman matchup scheduled for Tuesday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m.  Morgan State earned the No. 3 seed, following the tiebreaker against Norfolk State, to receive a two-day bye and will take on the winner of the No. 6 Florida A&M vs. No. 11 Delaware State game on Tuesday, March 11 slated for 9 p.m.
 
The 2014 regular season champion, regular season runners-up, first-team members and top honorees including Player, Rookie, Defensive and Coach of the Year selections, will be recognized in pre-game presentations prior to the honorees first games in tournament play. 
 
The 2014 MEAC Basketball Tournament tips-off Monday, March 10, and will conclude on Saturday, March 15 with the men's and women's championship games.  The women's game will start at 3 p.m. and will broadcast live on ESPN3 and tape-delayed on ESPNU beginning at Sunday, March 16, at 11 a.m. The men's finale will begin at 6 p.m. and will broadcast live on ESPNU.  The preliminary games will also be streamed live on www.MEACsports.com.  Live statistics of all games will be available on the conferences' official website and the tournament's official website, www.MEAChoops.com.
