DURHAM, N.C. – After having its series finale against Florida A&M suspended by rain, North Carolina Central University returns to the diamond to take on the Pirates of East Carolina in a midweek showdown at 5:00 p.m. from Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville, N.C.

ECU leads the all-time series 5-0, but the Eagles gave the Pirates all it could handle and more last season in a home-and-home series.

NCCU (9-13-1, 6-5 MEAC) has won four-of-its-last-six including a split with Florida A&M before rain halted the final game of the series with NCCU up 6-0 in the top of the second inning.

The Eagles are led by a trio of seniors highlighted by Tyson Simpson's (Burgaw, N.C.) .366 batting average which is good enough for 10th in the MEAC.  Zack Lee (Wilson, N.C.) is 12th in the conference batting .360 on the year and it third in the league in hits (31), first in runs scored (27), and fourth in stolen bases (8-for-9).  Carter Williamson (Roanoke, Va.) is batting .325 on the year and is No. 1 in the league in RBIs with 23.

ECU (13-11, 6-3 Conference USA) enters the midweek winners of three-in-a-row after a sweep of Charlotte over the weekend.  The Pirates had their Tuesday night home affair with UNC Wilmington postponed.

The Pirates are led at-the-plate by senior infielder Zach Houchins who is hitting .351 on the year with eight RBI, while outfielder Ian Townsend leads the team with 19 RBI on the year.

Head coach Jim Koerner will send Dylan Beiland (Hickory, N.C.) to the mound for his sixth career start on Wednesday night as the freshman lefty is 0-1 on the year in 22.1 innings pitched.  Beiland put together one of his best performances last week in a thrilling come-from-behind win over Furman as he went 5.2 innings and surrendered just two runs on six hits with three strikeouts  in NCCU's 3-2 extra innings victory over Furman.

ECU will send out junior righty Tyler Bolton (0-2, 1.78 ERA) for his sixth start of the year as well.  Bolton has 10 strikeouts in 25.1 innings of work.

The NCCU Sports Network will have full coverage of Wednesday's midweek matchup beginning with the Denny's of Durham Pregame Show at 4:45 p.m.  Play-by-play voice Chris Hooks will call the action from Clark-LeClair Stadium.
