Game 3 Box Score:  NCCU at NC A&T (HTML)

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Facing an 0-3 record to start MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) play, North Carolina Central University brought the aluminum tying a season-high with 13 hits against North Carolina A&T, taking down the Aggies 9-3 to avoid the opening series sweep at War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro, N.C.

Once again, NCCU plated the day's first run taking a 1-0 lead on NC A&T following senior Zack Lee's (Wilson, N.C.) leadoff single as senior Carter Williamson (Roanoke, Va.) singled to center field to give the maroon and gray the early advantage.

After an Aggie run in the bottom of the second inning to tie it at 1-1, the Eagles scored the game's next six runs starting with two runs in the third off Lee and Williamson doubles and a four-run explosion in the fourth aided by two Aggie miscues.  Williamson ripped his second double of the game in that frame as the Eagles stamped out a 7-1 lead.

The maroon and gray never looked back as A&T added runs in the fifth and the sixth to cut the deficit to four, but NCCU plated a run in the seventh and the ninth to clinch the 9-3 win.

A&T managed just six hits on the day, but four hurlers for the maroon and gray combined to force the Aggies to leave 10 men stranded on the day. The Aggies' All-MEAC performer Luke Tendler was held in-check going 0-for-4 at the dish.

Redshirt junior Eric Kimber (Greensboro, N.C.) scratched and clawed on the hill through 3.1 innings to earn the win for head coach Jim Koerner's squad.

Williamson led the NCCU offensive attack going 3-for-4 at-the-plate with two doubles and four RBI, while Lee went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, and an RBI.  Senior Tyson Simpson (Burgaw, N.C.) went 2-for-3 at-the-dish with two runs scored and an RBI in the win as well.

For NC A&T (6-3, 2-1 MEAC) only first baseman Cameron Jergens and centerfielder Ryan Hill recorded two hits.

The win ended a four-game losing streak for NCCU (2-7-1, 1-2 MEAC) as the Eagles will look to make it two-straight as they get back to midweek action on Tuesday, March 4 at UNC Asheville at 4:00 p.m. and a Wednesday, March 5 home contest against Longwood at 6:00 p.m. from the Durham Athletic Park.
