GLEN BURNIE, MD. – North Carolina Central University could not sustain the momentum of last weekend as the visiting Eagles blew a four run lead in game one to fall to 11-8 in 12 innings and 5-1 in game two to Coppin State University on the way to a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the host Eagles from Bachman Park in Glen Burnie, Md.

Trailing 3-2 in the top of the fifth, NCCU plated four runs highlighted by sophomore Kory Wood's two RBI double putting the maroon and gray up 6-3.

Moving to the top of the seventh, with the Eagles up 6-4, head coach Jim Koerner's squad put up two more runs on three hits to make it 8-4 heading down the backstretch.

After Coppin State added three on the scoreboard in the eighth, a maroon and gray miscue allowed the host Eagles to knot the game at 8-8 and send the game into extra innings.

In the top of the 11th and 12th frames, NCCU had runners in scoring position but could not drive them in, opening up the door for CSU as Ian Arciaga crushed a three-run home run in the bottom of the 12th to clinch the Coppin State win by the final tally of 11-8.

The maroon and gray left 15 men stranded throughout game one. 23 combined runners left on base in two games.

Game two saw NCCU take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Zack Lee (Wilson, N.C.) touched home plate on a wild pitch.

That was all of the scoring the maroon and gray could muster as Will Grebenstein for CSU threw a complete game five-hitter with five strikeouts.

Coppin State scored five combined runs in second and third innings and held on for the doubleheader sweep taking game two 5-1.

Wood led the Eagle offense going 4-for-8 (.500) at-the-dish with a double, a run scored, and two RBI as the maroon and gray compiled just four extra base hits in the twinbill sweep.

NCCU (5-11-1, 3-3 MEAC) jumps back into conference action on Saturday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m. as the Eagles host the defending champion Tigers of Savannah State University in MEAC doubleheader action from the Durham Athletic Park.
