ELON, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 shortcoming on the road against the Elon University Phoenix as the Lady Eagles fell to 0-4 on the season on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Elon captured the doubles victory after NCCU sophomore's
Aissa Muamba and
Mia Ramic fell to Phoenix duo of Frida Jansaker/Maria Camara Ruiz (8-2) at the No. 2 spot, the rookie twosome of
Tamara Jeremic and
Lynsey Cover droped a 8-2 decision to Viviana Stavreva/Byrn Khoury in the No. 3 seed, and Elon's Jordan Johnson/Taylor Casey defeated Lady Eagles No. 1 junior duo of
Rebecca Wood and
Ekaterina Nekrasova (8-4).
Trailing the Phoenix 1-0, NCCU dropped six straight singles matches.
Jeremic cleared the courts first at the No. 6 spot falling to Camara Ruiz (6-0, 6-0), Ramic was defeated by Casey at the No. 4 seed (6-3, 6-0), Nekrasova dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Khoury at No. 3, NCCU's No. 1 Muamba fell to Johnston (6-3, 6-2) and Wood suffered a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Jansaker at the No. 2.
At the No. 5 spot, Cover forced a tie breaker with Elon's Tolley Rice before Rice captured the 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 victory.
