NCCU WOMEN’S TENNIS EARNS SECOND-STRAIGHT VICTORY DEFEATING NSU

Muamba Continues Four-Match Win Streak

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team earned its second consecutive one-point decision victory as the Lady Eagles (2-6) defeated the Norfolk State Spartans (1-5) 4-3 on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Centre Court Racquet Club in Newport News, Va.

All three doubles matches were wire-to-wire battles as the NCCU rookie duo of Lynsey Cover and Tamara Jeremic cleared the courts first being defeated by NSU's No.3 Marie Habiy Aremye and Yvonne Kamegne, 8-6.

The Lady Eagles sealed the doubles point after sophomores Aissa Muamba and Mia Ramic captured the No. 2, 8-6 victory over the Spartans Krystal Scott/Liza Gordeeva and the NCCU junior twosome of Rebecca Wood and #Nekrasova# earned the No. 1 doubles victory over Mafalda Lhorca/Andrea Macchiabello, 8-6.

Ahead 1-0, Muamba finished first during singles action with a convincing win at the No. 2 spot defeating Kamegne, 6-1, 6-2.

NCCU's Wood was soon to follow at the No. 1 spot with a 6-1,6-3 victory over Gordeeva, putting the Lady Eagles on top 3-0.
 
The Spartans collected their first point at the No. 4 spot when Ramic fell to Lhorca, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
 
Nekrasova's lengthy clash at the No. 3 secured the NCCU victory as she defeated NSU's Macchiabello, 7-5, 7-6 (12-10) giving the Lady Eagles the 4-3 victory.
 
NCCU returns to action on Saturday, March 8 as the Lady Eagles travel to Florence, S.C., to participate in the three-day, 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up.
