NCCU (1-4-1) dropped three-of-four contests against the Purple Eagles over the weekend, but the youthful Eagles showed promise.
Senior Tyson Simpson (Burgaw, N.C.) enjoyed perhaps one of his best stretches of his career as he batted .650 from-the-dish going 13-for-20, with four doubles, four RBI, and four runs scored. Freshman Carlos Ortiz (Cleveland, Ohio) was right behind him batting .409 (9-for-22) with a home run, two RBI, and six runs scored.
High Point (3-4) enters Tuesday's nonconference affair winners of three of the last four contests that includes winning two-of-three against William and Mary over the weekend.
Junior Spencer Angelis leads the Panthers batting .483 on the year with 14 hits in seven games. Angelis has four RBI and one double on the year.
A pair of freshman will face off on the hill as lefty Andrew Wilson (Pilot Mountain, N.C.) makes his debut as a starter for the maroon and gray. HPU will send Peter Ripke (0-0, 2.08 ERA) out to toe-the-rubber. Wilson (0-0, 2.84 ERA) has made two appearances on the year, thrown 6.1 innings surrendering two runs and has recorded four strikeouts in his rookie season. Ripke threw 4.1 innings allowed four hits, one earned run, and a strikeout in a 4-3 Panther win over Charlotte.
