Brown lead Eagles with 11 Kills

Box Score ASHEVILLE, N.C. -  Junior transfer Da'sha Brown finished two digs shy of a double-double during the North Carolina Central University volleyball team's three-set loss to the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville (25-17, 25-13, 25-16) on Tuesday, Sept. 30 during the Eagles first road match-up in Asheville, N.C.
 
Brown finished the night hitting 28 percent with 11 kills while also contributing eight digs and one solo block. Senior Kalin Russell added five more kills for NCCU while accumulating three blocks and one service ace.
 
Junior setter Alice Genna circulated 12 assists while redshirt sophomore Melissa Rabell Pineiro dug nine UNCA attacks.
 
As a team the Eagles amassed 20 kills, 39 digs, two service aces and seven team blocks.
 
The Bulldogs offense was led by Christine Lakatos, who finished the night with 11 kills. Katie Davis distributed 28 assists while Rachel Wells tied UNCA's school record with seven service aces in addition to her team-high 14 digs in the victory.
 
UNC Asheville collected 27 kills, 26 digs, 12 service aces and eight team blocks.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead during the first set. Following a NCCU timeout, the Eagles went on a four-point rally bringing the set within two at 7-5 after a kill from Brown. Despite two ties, UNCA pushed ahead to take the 25-17 victory.
 
The second game was a back-and-forth battle for the first eight points as the set saw eight ties and seven lead changes. The Bulldogs dominated the second half of the set pulling away on a 17-5 run giving them the 25-13 victory and putting them ahead 2-0 in the match.
 
Despite a four-point rally in the middle of the third set, bringing the Eagles within two at 10-8, UNCA maintained the lead taking home the 3-0 match victory with a third set score of 25-16.
 
NCCU drops to 0-4 on the season while the Bulldogs advance to 4-0.
 
The Eagles return to action on Friday, Sept. 6 in Buies Creek, N.C., taking on Campbell at 3 p.m. and Georgetown at 5:30 p.m., in the two-day Campbell Invitational.
