DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University heads into the final week of the regular season looking to gather momentum heading into the 2013 MEAC Tournament with mid-week contests scheduled for Tuesday, May 7 in the home finale against High Point, and a Wednesday, May 8 road finale at Davidson. Both contests are scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
With the weather predicting scattered thunderstorms for Tuesday, stay tuned for possible postponements and weather updates for both games this week.
NCCU (25-25, 12-12 MEAC) dropped its last non-conference affair to High Point (23-24, 10-8 Big South) 7-0 at Willard Stadium in the first meeting between these two programs on April 17.
The Panthers are led by Ryan Retz, one of the top players in the Big South, who is hitting .345 on the year with four home runs and 32 RBI. HPU dropped two of three over the weekend to Campbell.
NCCU is led by senior Luis Diaz (Geneva, N.Y.) who is hitting .301 on the year with 10 doubles, three triples, two home runs and a team-high 29 RBI. The maroon and gray dropped both games on Saturday to Gardner-Webb that included a heartbreaking 3-2 loss in 11 innings.
Davidson (15-30, 10-17 SoCon) takes on Duke on Tuesday night before Wednesday night’s rematch as the Eagles beat the Wildcats for the first time on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 3-1 at the DAP. Since bringing the program back, the maroon and gray have yet to beat the Wildcats at Wilson Field with Davidson leading the series 9-1.
The NCCU Sports Network will have full coverage of both contests with the airtime slated for 5:45 p.m. for the Champps Pregame Show on Tuesday and Wednesday.
