MEAC Baseball All-Conference Honors (PDF)
NORFOLK, VA. – A combination of seniors on the North Carolina Central University baseball team were named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball All-Conference squads as Luis Diaz (Geneva, N.Y.) was selected to the first team, while Glenn Frye (Lillington, N.C.) earned second team honors the league announced on Wednesday.
Diaz becomes the first student-athlete in the modern era of the program to earn all-league mention in back-to-back years as the versatile senior played in both the infield and the outfield during the year. He finished the regular season batting .307 at the dish with a team-high 55 hits and was fifth in the conference in runs scored with 42. Diaz earned first-team All-MEAC honors in his junior season and compiled 120 hits in two seasons and currently has the top career batting average (.330) in the modern era of the program.
Frye becomes the first pitcher in the school’s modern era to earn all-league honors as the senior righty also became the first Eagle to record over 200 career strikeouts during his career. Frye finished the regular season with a 3.64 earned run average while racking up five wins with 58 strikeouts and only 10 walks in 81.2 innings pitched during his final season at NCCU.
The program finished the regular season with a 25-27 record which was not only the first 20-plus win campaign at the NCAA Division I level, but the most since the 21 victories in 2007.
Diaz, Frye, and the Eagles will try to stave off elimination in the 2013 MEAC Baseball Championships on Thursday, May 16 at 9:00 a.m. against the Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at Marty Miller Field in Norfolk, Va.
