NCCU LOOKS TO STAVE OFF ELIMINATION AGAINST UMES ON THURSDAY

Hawks took down Eagles 13-5 last year’s MEAC Championships

NORFOLK, VA. – The first game of day two of the 2013 MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Baseball Championships will be the first elimination contest as the Eagles of North Carolina Central University will battle the Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday, May 16 at 9:00 a.m. from Marty Miller Field in Norfolk, Va.
 
NCCU (25-28) and UMES (8-44) are meeting for the second consecutive year in the MEAC Championships with the Hawks taking down the Eagles last year 13-5 in opening round action.  Conversely, the maroon and gray of NCCU is 1-1 in elimination contests during second year head coach Jim Koerner’s tenure.
 
Maryland Eastern Shore, the No. 4 seed from the North Division, is coming off a disappointing 3-1 loss to the No. 1 seed in the South Division Savannah State.
 
Junior righty Terry McNabb (Davidson, Sask.) will take the hill for the Eagles looking to keep the maroon and gray’s championship dreams alive.  McNabb (4-6, 4.60 ERA) will make start No. 12 on the year and has worked 74.1 innings and is second on the team with 45 strikeouts.

The winner advances in the loser’s bracket of the MEAC Championships to a matchup on Friday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. against the loser of the Savannah State/Norfolk State matchup, while the loser is eliminated from the tournament.
