PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – North Carolina Central University junior Glendon Mabe carded birdies on three of his final four holes to shoot 74 (+2) during the first round of the 27th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship on Friday (May 10) at The PGA Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
A native of Ether, N.C., Mabe posted the low score for the Eagles, who recorded a 312 team score for a seventh-place position heading into Saturday’s second round.
Spencer Jones (Shelby, N.C.) and Andre Jones (Durham, N.C.) each tallied a score of 79, while freshmen Garreth Carpenter (Augusta, Ga.) and Michael Wilson (Flint, Mich.) added scores of 80 and 81, respectively.
The Eagles will tee it up on the 6,840-yard Wanamaker Course starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The final round will be contested on Sunday.
