DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt sophomore Eric Kimber (Greensboro, N.C.) earned MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced.
Kimber was inserted into the starting lineup on Sunday in NCCU’s must-win contest against arch-rival North Carolina A&T. As the Eagles tried to avoid the sweep, in-stepped Kimber who went 3-for-4 at-the-plate that included his first career double in the seventh inning to plate three runs, leading to the 4-2 victory.
The much-needed win evened the season series between NCCU and NC A&T at three games apiece and kept the maroon and gray in second place in the MEAC’s Southern Division.
Throughout the week, Kimber hit 5-for-9 (.556) in three-games played.
NCCU (21-14, 9-6 MEAC) will look to use the momentum from Sunday’s victory to prepare for game three of its seven-game road swing which takes place Wednesday evening at 6:00 against cross-town foe Duke University at Jack Coombs Field.
