NCCU HITS THE ROAD FOR MIDWEEK CONTEST AT CAMPBELL

Eagles look to make it three-in-a-row against the Camels

DURHAM, N.C. – Following the disappointing weekend, the North Carolina Central University baseball team looks to end a four-game losing skid as the Eagles take the short trip to battle Campbell University in the final midweek matchup of the year at newly renovated Jim Perry Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C.

NCCU is 2-14 all-time against Campbell (35-8, 14-4 Big South) winning the last two contests against the squad from the Big South.  The Camels are coming off a series sweep of VMI.

This contest falls exactly a week after the maroon and gray pulled the 5-1 upset on the Camels behind senior Ruben Rios (Fortuna, Calif.) stellar performance on the hill through five innings, combined with freshman righty Andrew Vernon (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior Jacob Russell (Winston-Salem, N.C.).  Rios allowed only one earned run with three strikeouts and two walks, while Vernon and Russell combined to work four innings and gave up just one hit with a walk and a strikeout.

Offensively, junior Troy Marrow (Lutherville, Md.) led the charge going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Junior lefty Jordan Quinn (Goldsboro, N.C.) will take the hill for the Eagles after taking his second loss of the year against High Point on April 17.  Quinn (5-2, 2.43 ERA) has allowed only 17 earned runs in 63.0 innings pitched this year, while recording 34 strikeouts and 18 walks.

The NCCU Sports Network will hit the air at 5:45 p.m. with the Champps Pregame Show as Chris Hooks will call the action from Jim Perry Stadium.  Fans can follow the action via twitter by following @NCCUAthletics and using the hashtag #NCCUBaseball.
