DURHAM, N.C. – Senior right hander Glenn Frye (Lillington, N.C.) of the North Carolina Central University baseball program has been honored as the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Co-Pitcher of the Week, sharing the honor with Delaware State’s Matt McClain the conference announced on Tuesday.
Frye (4-3, 4.06 ERA) garnered the honor by shutting out the league perennial power Bethune-Cookman to split the crucial Saturday doubleheader as he threw all seven innings with five strikeouts, while scattering four hits and a walk in the 10-0 win over the Wildcats.
In 57.2 innings of work, Frye has amassed 40 strikeouts, tying for the team lead with junior Terry McNabb (Davidson, Sask.) and is No. 40 in the nation in Strikeout-to-Walk ratio (5.71), and No. 25 in Walks Allowed Per Nine Innings (1.09).
He sits atop the current modern day record books with 191 career strikeouts needing nine to become to the first Eagle to do so since the program returned in 2007.
DSU’s McClain also earned a complete game shutout with five strikeouts and no walks in a 6-0 win over Coppin State, sharing the honor with Frye.
