NCCU FINISHES REGULAR SEASON WITH 51-30 LOSS TO HAMPTON

Williams End Regular-Season Career with Double-Double

HAMPTON, Va. - In the last contest of the regular season, the North Carolina Central University women's basketball team suffered a 51-30 loss to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season champions and undefeated Lady Pirates of Hampton University on Thursday, March 7 in Hampton, Va., at the HU Convocation Center.
 
Lady Eagles lone senior Chasidy Williams finished the final contest with a team-high 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds marking her fourth double-double of the season.
 
In addition to Williams, rookie Tisha Dixon scored nine points while red shirt freshman Kaylah Blount pulled down six boards.
 
Hampton began the game with a 15-0 lead until Williams scored the first NCCU basket at the 11:33 mark.
 
The Lady Pirates continued their dominance taking their largest lead of the half with 7:01 left to play, leading by 20 at 25-5.
 
Williams led NCCU with eight points and six rebounds after 20 minutes of competition as the Lady Eagles took a 31-13 deficit into the locker room.
 
Continuing its first-half offensive control, HU extended its lead to 28 points with 4:58 left to play in the contest before the MEAC regular-season champions defeated NCCU 51-30.

The maroon and gray shot 25 percent from the field on 10-for-40 shooting, collected a game-high 38 rebounds, five steals, blocked one shot and shot 10-for-14 from the charity stripe at 71 percent.

Keiara Avant lead the Lady Pirates scoring a game-high 22 points, grasping 10 boards, stealing four NCCU possession and dishing our an assist and blocking one shot during the HU victory.

The Lady Pirates were 36 percent from the field on 21-for-58, 2-for-10 from long range and 77 percent from the free throw line on 7-for-9 shooting.

NCCU drops to 2-27 on the season and 2-14 in the MEAC, while Hampton advances to 25-5 and 16-0 in the conference.

NCCU will travel to Norfolk, Va., on Monday, March 11 where they will compete in the MEAC tournament.
