DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior cheerleader Johnae’ Stoutamire has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2013 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and on the sideline.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Stoutamire served as a captain of the 2012-13 NCCU varsity cheerleading team. She was a member of the NCCU cheerleading program for four years, including three years on the varsity squad.
“Johnae has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to the NCCU cheerleading program during her four years as a student-athlete,” said NCCU cheerleading head coach LuAnn Edmonds-Harris. “She is dependable and a great ‘voice’ for not only the NCCU cheerleading program, but the Department of Athletics as a whole. Being able to fulfill her academic obligations as well as participate in campus organizations, community engagement, internships and part-time employment, Johnae is a portrait of the caliber of young ladies that I welcome to our cheerleading program here at NCCU.”
A criminal justice major with a concentration in law enforcement, Stoutamire boasts a 3.216 grade point average and is on pace to graduate with honors in May.
Stoutamire held an internship position with the State Bureau of Investigations last summer and is currently working an internship at the Drug Treatment Court in Durham County.
She is also a member of the Alpha Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
