DURHAM, N.C. – Following the tough series loss to the MEAC’s (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) top team Bethune-Cookman, North Carolina Central University looks to rebound against the Duke Blue Devils in the first of two matchups in the 2013 campaign which will take place on Tuesday night, March 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Durham Athletic Park.
NCCU (9-7, 3-3 MEAC) took game one of the series against B-CU only to drop the next two in tightly contested fashion as the Eagles enter the week led junior infielder Dylan Drayton (Raleigh, N.C.) who is hitting .367 on the year, but junior third baseman Troy Marrow (Lutherville, Md.) tops the team with nine RBI. Marrow is also tied for No. 1 in the nation in being plunked as he has drawn 12 HBPs this year tying him with Mike Warren of UTSA (University of Texas-San Antonio).
Duke (8-7, 2-1 ACC) is coming off a huge series win down in Coral Gables, Fla. over the perennial power University of Miami and is led by backstop Mike Rosenfeld who is batting .408 on the year with seven doubles and a triple. Jordan Betts tops the team with 12 RBI along with four homers in 15 games played.
First year head coach for the Blue Devils, Chris Pollard, will send freshman righty James Marvel (0-2, 6.92 ERA) out to the hill for his fourth start of the year. In 13.0 innings pitched, Marvel has allowed 10 earned runs with 10 walks and five K’s.
Junior lefty Jordan Quinn (Goldsboro, N.C.) gets the nod for the fourth time in his first year at NCCU. Quinn (3-0, 1.29 ERA) has been razor-sharp in his first three appearances throwing 21.0 innings with only three earned runs and 10 strikeouts, while issuing seven walks.
The maroon and gray are 0-10 all-time against Duke.
Mike Wood will call the action for the NCCU Sports Network from the DAP as the Champps Pregame Show begins at 5:55 p.m.
