NCCU WOMEN’S TENNIS MAKES SECOND ATTEMPT TO START SPRING SEASON ON SATURDAY AT ELON

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women’s tennis team will make a second attempt to open the spring season on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Elon University at 10 a.m.

The Lady Eagles were originally scheduled to start the spring segment on Jan. 26 at Charlotte, but that match was postponed until March 16 due to cold temperatures and icy driving conditions.

The forecast for Saturday in Elon, N.C., calls for temperatures to be in the mid-40s at match time with a 20-percent chance of precipitation.

MEAC tennis coaches and sports information directors predicted NCCU to finish third in the league’s southern division standings after the Lady Eagles posted an 8-9 overall record and a 5-2 conference mark during the 2012 season.

Elon enters Saturday’s match-up with four matches under its belt already. After dropping the first match of the spring season to No. 8 North Carolina on Jan. 23, the Phoenix have won three straight matches.
