PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Three Lady Eagles earn season-high performances as the North Carolina Central University women’s basketball team fell to the Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks, 72-53, Monday, Feb. 04, in Princess Anne, Md., at the W.P. Hytche Center.

Chasidy Williams led all-scorers, also earning a double-double, with a season-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Red shirt freshmen
Kaylah Blount also had her best outing of the season leading the game on the boards seizing 14 total rebounds in addition to her season-high nine points. Fellow freshmen
Aja Hoyle also posted a season-high on the offensive end scoring a total of 11 points while also pulling down four boards, dishing out four assist and collecting one steal.
For the second straight game the Lady Eagles started the game on top, leading UMES 4-0 during the first four minutes of play. The remainder of the half belonged to the Lady Hawks as they pulled ahead by as many as nine points before they took an eight point lead into half time on top of NCCU 30-22.
After the first twenty minutes Williams already accumulated eight points and eight rebounds while Blount pulled down six boards and scored five points.
During the second half of the game the Lady Eagles battled to keep the game within range, trailing by as few as three points after a made layup from Williams at the 16:25 mark.
With eight minutes before time expired NCCU fell behind by six points after two made shots from Hoyle at the charity stripe. Following the Lady Eagle free throws UMES took off on a 17-5 run pulling ahead by as many as 21 before defeating NCCU by 19 points with a final score of 72-53.
The Lady Eagles 53 point performance marks the most points scored by the maroon and gray since Nov. 21, 2012, when NCCU fell to Western Carolina 67-55.
As a team the Lady Eagles shot 28 percent from the field, almost doubled their opponents on the boards pulling down a total of 50 rebounds compared to the Lady Hawks 29, dished out five assists, stole the ball five times and scored 25 points off of free throws shooting 25-for-36 from the charity stripe at 69 percent.
UMES was led offensively by four different Lady Hawks who all scored in double digits on the night. Ashleigh Claysbrooks and Shawnee Sweeney scored 17 points apiece while Jessica Long and Sha-Kiyla Finney contributed 11 and 10 respectively.
Overall, the Lady Hawks shot 44 percent from the field, 5-for-18 from behind the arch, 83 percent from the free throw line, assisted 20 UMES shots, blocked 11 Lady Eagle shots and amassed 17 steals.
The Lady Eagles return home Saturday, Feb. 9, when they host the Lady Rattlers from Florida A&M in game one of a women’s and men’s double-header. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m., in McDouglad-McLendon Gymnasium in Durham, N.C.
