The Hawks lone win came at home against the Hornets of Delaware State University on Jan. 19 (58-53), when 6-4 freshman Kevin Mays led with 17 points on just 2-for-7 shooting from the field. Mays was an astonishing 13-for-14 from the foul line as the Hawks led from beginning to end. As a team, UMES shot 30-for-40 (75 percent) from the foul line. In Saturday’s 46-44 loss to North Carolina A&T, UMES shot 31.4 percent from the field (16-for-51) and was led by 6-6 forward Troy Snyder who scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds. After 17 games, the Hawks average 55.8 points per game, while allowing 70.5 points a contest.
