DURHAM, N.C. – Sitting at 3-0 on the year, the North Carolina Central University baseball program looks to keep the early-season momentum going as the Eagles host the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College in a weekend three-game set beginning with doubleheader action on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1:00 p.m. from the Durham Athletic Park and ending Sunday, Feb. 24 with a single contest.  Admission is free.

The series was originally slated to last three days with a single game each day, but inclement weather forced game officials to postpone Friday’s contest till Saturday.

NCCU is 0-7 all-time against the Blue Hose as Presbyterian took the only two matchups last season (8-6, 3-1) on March 6 and 7 in Durham.

PC enters the weekend 1-4 on the year and has yet to play a home game after the Blue Hose dropped a 5-2 decision to in-state foe USC Upstate on Wednesday afternoon.

Brandon Martin leads the way offensively for Presbyterian batting .438 on the year, while

For the maroon and gray, junior Troy Marrow (Lutherville, Md.) is off to a hot start for the Eagles batting .556 (5-for-9) at-the-dish with a run scored and three RBI.   NCCU Senior second baseman Dylan Drayton (Raleigh, N.C.) is also off to a solid beginning of the year batting 4-for-9 (.444) with two runs scored.

PC will send lefty Beau Dees out to the hill in the first game of Saturday’s twinbill, who after his first outing of the year has a 3.86 ERA and an 0-1 record.  NCCU head coach Jim Koerner will counter with senior lefty Michael Romano who threw 5.2 innings in the game one win over NJIT with three strikeouts and three earned runs allowed.

The second contest on Saturday will be a righty/righty matchup as Presbyterian’s Chandler Knox will battle the Eagles’ Glenn Frye (Lillington, N.C.).  Frye put on a clinic against NJIT in the second game of last week’s doubleheader mowing down 10 batters in seven strong innings with only one earned run allowed.  Game two will take place approximately 30 minutes after game one on Saturday.

The series finale set for Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1:00 p.m. will see junior Terry McNabb (Davidson, Sask.) back on the hill as the junior came-on in relief in the first game of the season, allowing only one hit, and striking out seven batters in 3.1 innings of work to earn the win.  Presbyterian is counter with righty Bud Jeter who owns the only win on the staff after earning a complete game victory against MEAC foe Savannah State surrendering only six hits and three earned runs by the Tigers with nine strikeouts for the Blue Hose.
The NCCU Sports Network will have full coverage of the weekend set beginning at 12:55 p.m. on Saturday as Kyle Serba will call the live action of the twinbill from the Durham Athletic Park.  Play-by-play voice of the NCCU Sports Network Chris Hooks will return to the microphone on Sunday with the Champps Pregame Show at 12:45 p.m.  Head over to GameCentral to get the links of the broadcast.
