EAGLES LOOK TO KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING AGAINST DAVIDSON

DURHAM, N.C.– Following the weather shortened weekend series, the North Carolina Central University will look for its first-ever 3-0 start to a season since bringing the program back as the Eagles host the Wildcats of Davidson College on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 4:00 p.m. from the Durham Athletic Park.

NCCU and Davidson have met nine previous times with the Wildcats holding a 9-0 advantage in the series.

Both teams enter Wednesday’s affair with 2-0 records as the Eagles swept a doubleheader on Sunday against NJIT, while Davidson beat George Washington in two games, but had its contest on Saturday shortened by the snow as the contest was called in the seventh.

Finally making his NCCU debut which was postponed because of Mother Nature, junior Jordan Quinn (Goldsboro, N.C.) will get his first start of the maroon and gray career as the lefty was slated to start in Sunday’s twinbill but since Saturday was cancelled, head coach Jim Koerner simply pushed his rotation back.

Davidson head coach Dick Cooke will send junior Danny Mooney to the mound for his 2013 debut for the Wildcats.

NCCU was led in the doubleheader sweep by junior Troy Marrow (Lutherville, Md.) who went 4-for-6 with a run scored, two walks, and two RBI.  In the two-game sweep of the Highlanders, 10 Eagles recorded at least one hit, while seven drove-in at at least one RBI.

The maroon and gray pitching staff put on a noteworthy performance over the weekend as senior Glenn Frye (Lillington, N.C.) earned the win and notched 10 strikeouts in his first start putting him 39 K’s away from becoming the first Eagle to 200 in the modern era of NCCU baseball.  Junior Terry McNabb (Davidson, Sask.) struck out seven batters in his 3.1 innings of work

The NCCU Sports Network will carry Wednesday’s contest live from the Durham Athletic Park beginning with the Champps Pregame Show at 3:55 p.m. as Mike Wood will fill-in for Chris Hooks on the broadcast.  Fans can follow the contest live on twitter by following @NCCUAthletics and by using the hashtag #NCCUBaseball.
