ELON, N.C. - The North Carolina Central University women’s tennis team opened the 2013 season suffering a 7-0 loss to the Phoenix from Elon on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C.
NCCU senior
Olesya Palko competed as the No. 1 singles player, where she suffered a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Elon’s Jordan Johnston. Fellow Lady Eagle
Ekaterina Nekrasova battled Frida Jansaker and underwent a 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 defeat.

Mia Ramic and
Brianna Gatson also found themselves on the opposing end of the racket. Muamba fell to Viviana Stareva (6-2,7-6), Ramic lost to Barbora Lazarova (6-3,6-0), and Caroline Baker defeated Gaston (6-0, 6-0), while sophomore
Julia Aguilar fell to Elon’s Briana Berne (6-0,6-0)
In doubles competition the Pheniox combination of Johnston/Jansaker defeated NCCU’s Nekrasova/Palko (8-2), Ramic/Muamba fell to Elon’s Stavreva/Taylor Casey (8-5) and Lady Eagles Aguilar/Gaston lost to Bryn Khoury/Maria Camara-Ruiz (8-0).
NCCU women’s tennis returns to action on Friday, Feb. 15 when they travel to Buies Creek, N.C., to take on the Lady Camels from Campbell University at 2 p.m.
