THE GAME

North Carolina Central University takes on its first nationally-ranked opponent of the 2013-14 campaign as they battle the No. 9/11 Shockers of Wichita State University.  This is the second time in the young NCAA Division I history of the program that the maroon and gray take on a Final Four participant from the previous season.  (Florida, 2007).

THE SERIES
Wichita State and NCCU meet for the second time in the last two years with the Shockers leading the series 1-0.  WSU pulled away from the Eagles in the victory (71-57) in the season opener for each squad back on Nov. 10, 2012.  Since making the transition to the NCAA Division I level, the maroon and gray are 0-4 against Missouri Valley Conference foes.

SCOUTING REPORT:  WICHITA STATE
-Wichita State is off to its best start in school history at 11-0 and is one of 14 teams across the NCAA Division I level that remain unbeaten.  A proud program that boasts seven Missouri Valley Regular Season Championships, two MVC Tournament Championships, one Postseason NIT Championship, 10 NCAA Tournament appearances (two Final Fours, two Elite Eight's), and 12 NIT appearances.  The Shockers went to the Final Four last season as a nine-seed out of the West Region.

-In his seventh season at the helm, Gregg Marshall just recorded win No. 150 on Tuesday night, taking down Alabama 72-67.  In the 2012-13 season, the Shockers set a school record for most wins with 30 and earning a trip to its first Final Four since 1965.  Marshall is 343-153 (.690) in 16 years of college coaching, and is 150-70 (.679) during his tenure at WSU.

-The Shockers are led by preseason Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year Cleanthony Early as the 6-8 senior leads the squad in points per game (15.3 ppg., sixth in MVC), while ripping down a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game (sixth in MVC).  The trio of guards Ron Baker (14.0 points per game), Tekele Cotton (11.3 points per game), and Fred VanVleet (11.3 points per game) are a huge reason why the Shockers are unbeaten at this point of the year.  VanVleet is second in the MVC averaging 5.1 assists per game, while also shooting 50.0 percent from deep (11-for-22).

-WSU is No. 1 in the MVC allowing just 60.4 points a game, which is No. 14 in the nation (NCCU is No. 18, 62.0 points allowed per game).  The Shockers are first in free throw percentage (75.2 percent), first in field goal percentage defense (39.2 percent),  and first in blocked shots averaging 4.5 swats per game.

-WSU carries a 136 regular season game streak of more than 10,000 fans inside Charles Koch Arena (10,506).  During Marshall's seven seasons, the Shocks are 89-19 at home, including 36-3 since the 2011-12 campaign.
