DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University redshirt senior Reggie Groves (Raleigh, N.C.) set a new career high with 32 points, shooting 10-for-13 from three point range, setting a new school record en route to a 101-46 victory over the Mighty Sabers of Barber-Scotia College on Tuesday night inside McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium. 

NCCU stormed out of the locker room, beginning the contest on 8-2 run four minutes into the game, led by Alfonzo Houston's (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) five quick points.

Over the next five minutes the Eagles domination continued as the maroon and gray went on a 24-3 run to stretch their lead to 32-5.

NCCU took a 61-22 lead into the locker room.  The Eagles shot 24-for-40 (60 percent) from the field, led by Reggie Groves' 18 points going 6-of-8 from three point range in just 12 minutes off the bench. The maroon and gray also converted 16 turnovers to 30 points. The 61 first half points by the Eagles is the largest on the year.

Groves' hot shooting carried over in the second half hitting his first two shots from behind-the-arc, helping NCCU stretch its lead to 45 at 77-32.

The maroon and gray put it on cruise control for the remainder of the contest closing out the game on a 24-to-14 run as NCCU won its fifth straight contest 101-46 the final score.

The Eagles were led by Reggie Groves who finished the night with a career-high 32 points on 10-for-13 shooting from behind the arc. Groves set a new school record, breaking the previous mark held by current NCCU head coach LeVelle Moton, who went 9-for-14 from-the-outside on Jan. 19, 1995 against North Carolina A&T.

Three other student-athletes chipped in with double figures as Jeremy Ingram (Charlotte, N.C.) added 13 points, Emanuel Chapman (Raleigh, N.C.) dropped-in 11 points, and Antonin Galaya (St. Martin, French West Indies) contributed 10 points in the win.

As a team, the Eagles recorded a season high 28 assists while grabbing 52 rebounds compared to 20 for Barber-Scotia (0-10).

Since 1986, the Mighty Sabers are 0-4 against the Eagles.
 
With the victory, NCCU (5-1) has now won five straight contests, tying the best start since the 2004-2005 season.

The maroon and gray will have a week off before they travel to Norfolk, V.A. to take on the Monarchs of Old Dominion University inside the confines of the Ted Constant Convocation Center on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
