DURHAM, N.C. – With the game well in-hand, North Carolina Central University point guard Emanuel Chapman (Raleigh, N.C.) connected with teammate Jay Copeland (Suffolk, Va.) as he was flashing down the lane to covert an open layup.  It was on that play with 6:07 to go that history was made as the Eagles rolled to a decisive 98-47 win over Johnson and Wales in the home opener at McDougald-McLendon Gym on Monday night.

Chapman's sixth assist of the night pushed him on top of the mountain at NCCU as the senior recorded assist No. 410 to place him first all-time in career helpers.  Moments later the enthusiastic crowd of 1,332 gave the crafty veteran a standing ovation, one that Eagle fans will never forget.

NCCU used a 46-12 run over the final 16:20 of the first half to erase a 9-8 deficit and any chance of a Wildcat upset leading 54-21 heading into the locker room.  The Eagles shot an astonishing 59.4 percent from the field and saw junior transfer Jordan Parks rack up his first career double-double in just 13 minutes of play in the first frame with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Redshirt senior Ebuka Anyaorah tallied 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field including two treys, while junior Jeremy Ingram added 10 points to help lead the charge.

The second stanza was even more productive for the Eagles as they held Johnson and Wales to just 10 field goals and forced 13 turnovers, while the maroon and gray shot 18-for-30 (60 percent) in the frame that included 2-for-4 from three-point range to pull away for the 98-47 victory.

After shooting a dismal 3-for-14 from behind-the-arc last Friday against Cincinnati, the Eagles were 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from-the-outside in the win.

NCCU outrebounded the Wildcats 48-29 and outscored them 60-28 in the paint to move to 4-0 all-time against JWU.

After all was said and done, the maroon and gray finished the night with a flurry of Parks dunks that sent the crowd into a frenzy as NCCU had five student-athletes score in double figures, along with two first-time double doubles.

Parks ended the night with 22 points and 15 rebounds on 10-for-14 shooting from-the-field and Copeland accumulated 15 points and ripped down 10 boards while going 7-for-7 from inside-the-paint.

For the second straight game, Ingram recorded more than 20 points ending up with 21 on 6-of-9 shooting including a 2-for-3 effort from three-point range.  It also marked the 11th time in his career in which he has scored 20 or more points in a contest.

Anyaorah (16 points) and senior Alfonzo Houston (12 points) rounded out the double figure scoring for the maroon and gray in the win.  Chapman's final line on the night was seven points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

NCCU (1-1) has now won 10-straight contests inside McDougald-McLendon Gym and will have a week before round two of the 2013 Global Sports Hoops Classic as the Eagles take on the Camels of Campbell University on Monday, Nov. 18 at 7:00 p.m. from the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center in Buies Creek, N.C.
