BETHUNE-COOKMAN UNIVERSITY "WILDCATS"
The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman enter play on Monday night with a 6-11 record overall, 1-1 in MEAC action. B-CU is led by second year head coach Gravelle Craig who has compiled a 24-28 record at the helm. In his first season, Craig became the first coach at B-CU since Raymond McDouogle in 1966-67 (19-10) to record a winning record in their first season as head coach as the Cats finished 18-17. This program has recorded four consecutive winning seasons, proving to be one of the top teams in the league during that span. He also led the Wildcats to the MEAC Tournament Championship game which was also another first for the program. B-CU is coming off a 72-60 win over North Carolina A&T, where the Aggies held the conference’s leading scorer Adrien Coleman (17.9 points per game) to 8 points holding the junior to just six shot attempts in 27 minutes. That’s where teammates Kevin Dukes and Malik Jackson stepped up hitting a combined 11 three-pointers to propel the Wildcats to the win at home. Dukes is second on the squad averaging 11.4 points a game which ranks him No. 21 in the league in that category, while he is sixth in the league in assists at 4.1 per game, fifth in steals at 1.9 per contest, and eighth in three-pointer percentage at 35.9 percent. Coleman also ranks third in the conference in rebounding ripping down 7.3 boards a game. Fellow forward Alex Smith is seventh in the conference in rebounding averaging 6.6 boards a contest, while perched atop the league in field goal percentage at 67.0 percent. As a team, B-CU sits right behind NCCU and FAMU at third in the conference in scoring offense at 68.9 points per game and is second in the MEAC averaging 13.8 assists per game. The Wildcats have sent out a different starting lineup in four of the last five games.
