TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Leading by 11 at the end of the first half, North Carolina Central University used a 22-to-5 run through the first nine minutes of the final stanza to pull away for a convincing 85-62 conference win over Florida A&M to earn the maroon and gray’s third straight win on Saturday afternoon inside the Lawson Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
 
In the eighth meeting between the two programs, NCCU’s Jeremy Ingram (Charlotte, N.C.) came out scorching hot from the field dropping in 18 points in the first frame which allowed the Eagles to lead by as much as 19.
 
The junior guard went 2-for-4 from three-point range, but his hoop-and-the-harm capped off a 15-to-5 run that stretched the Eagle lead to 31-13 with 7:50 to go.
 
Thirteen forced turnovers by the maroon and gray aided by eight first half steals, and 13 points off turnovers keyed the impressive first half for NCCU, but the Rattlers struck back with a 6-0 run over the final 2:17to cut the margin to 11 at 43-32 at the break.
 
Head coach LeVelle Moton’s squad went-in for the kill to start the second half going on a 12-2 spurt through the first three minutes behind a three-pointer from both Ray Willis (Atlanta, Ga.) and Emanuel Chapman (Raleigh, N.C.) to stretch the margin to 21 at 55-34.
 
With 10:56 to go, Stanton Kidd’s (Baltimore, Md.) three-pointer from the top of the key put NCCU up by 30 at 67-37 as the Eagles outscored the Rattlers 22-to-5 through the first nine minutes of the second half.
 
From that point forward, the maroon and gray cruised to the 85-62 to earn its third straight win inside the Lawson Center.
 
Ingram ended the night with 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field, while Kidd finished the evening with 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting.  Willis contributed 12 points, a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range.
 
As a team the Eagles shot 57.1 percent (32-for-56) from the field, but went a scorching 9-for-18 (50.0 percent) from three-point range in the victory.  NCCU outscored FAMU 30-to-18 in the paint and 18-to-8 in points off turnovers.
 
Conversely, Florida A&M shot just 31.0 percent (9-for-29) from the field in the second stanza.
 
FAMU (4-12, 1-1 MEAC) had five student-athletes in double-figures as Reggie Lewis, Jamari Bradshaw, and Trey Kellum all finished with 12 points, while Muhammed Abdul-Aleem and Jamie Adams contributed 10 points in the Rattler loss.
 
NCCU (9-7, 2-0 MEAC) will look for its fourth win in-a-row as the Eagles head to Daytona Beach, Fla. to battle Bethune-Cookman University on Monday night in a crucial early season league matchup from Moore Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
