DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University head men’s basketball coach LeVelle Moton has announced the hiring of Donald Thomas as assistant coach to his current staff.
Thomas comes to NCCU after spending the 2011-12 season as an assistant coach at Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C., where he was the recruiting coordinator along with his coaching duties that included being the head coach of the junior varsity squad. Prior to his time as a member of the Falcons men’s basketball program, the Baltimore, Md., native assisted in recruiting, opponent scouting, and player development in the same position at his alma mater Pikeville College under coach Kelly Wells.
After averaging 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in his senior season to earn honorable mention honors in the Mid-South Conference, Thomas worked his way up from a student assistant position and played a key role in the 2011 campaign where UPike finished the year 30-7 overall and won the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Division I National Championship. Thomas graduated in 2008 with a degree in business administration.
“We are glad to welcome Donald to the NCCU family,” said Moton. “He is a Baltimore guy and his recruiting connections to that city are impeccable. “His knowledge, passion, and energy for the game will enhance our program in various ways.”
