DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University baseball team welcomes in-state foe Campbell University to the Bull City for a mid-week single game tilt on Wednesday,  April 11 at 6:00 p.m. from the historic Durham Athletic Park.

These two programs have met 13 times with the visiting Camels having accumulated a 13-0 record against the young Eagle baseball program.  NCCU and Campbell first met on March 25, 2008 and have met every season since.

The Camels enters the week sitting in a tie for second place in the Big South Conference with a 26-7 mark overall, 6-3 in league action, just a game behind league front-runner Liberty at 7-2.

NCCU met Campbell earlier in the year in doubleheader action on March 2, dropping both contests 6-1 and 15-2.

The Eagles (10-24, 6-6 MEAC) enter the week tied with North Carolina A&T for second place in the Southern division of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.  With the huge weekend tilt against the Aggies awaiting the maroon and gray, focusing on the task at hand is as important as it has ever been under head coach Jim Koerner.

Campbell also battles A&T on Tuesday night before traveling to Durham to take on the Eagles, and the Camels are led by junior Michael Felton who leads the entire country in base hits with 61.  Felton also sits fifth in the nation with a .459 batting average.  As a team, the Fighting Camels are No. 1 in the Big South in batting average, and also reside in the nation’s top-10 in that category as well as scoring, runs, hits, stolen bases, hit by pitches, and on-base percentage.

NCCU is led by junior outfielder Luis Diaz (Geneva, N.Y.) who tops the roster batting .363 with four home runs and 19 RBI.  Diaz is No. 1 in the MEAC in hits (45), triples (4), and total bases (71), No. 2 in runs scored (31) and home runs (4).  Sophomore backstop Carter Williamson (Roanoke, Va.) leads the Eagles with 25 RBI which places him tied for third in the MEAC with Delaware State’s JP Frey.  Sitting fourth in the league in doubles is senior Ross Plummer (Winston-Salem, N.C.) who has ripped 9 this season.

On the hill, senior Sam Fulmer (Raleigh, N.C.) is second in the league in strikeouts with 43 while junior hurler Glenn Frye (Lillington, N.C.) is tied for third with Maryland Eastern Shore’s Jacob Foreman with 41 on the year.  Both recorded a season-high eight strikeouts this past weekend in a three-game series against Longwood.

The NCCU Sports Network will have wall-to-wall coverage of Wednesday night’s mid-week battle against the Camels.  Play-by-play voice Chris Hooks will go on the air with Eagle Gameday built by Dayeco Construction at 5:45 p.m.  Fans can also follow Eagle baseball on twitter by following @NCCUAthletics and by using the #NCCUBaseball hashtag.
