DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University baseball team enters the week winners of two-in-a-row and a ton of confidence following the series win over arch-rival North Carolina A&T, and will look to carry that positive energy to its mid-week battle against Davidson College from the Southern Conference on Tuesday night at 6:00 at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C.

This will mark the eighth meeting between these two programs all-time with the Wildcats owning a 7-0 lead.  Last season, the Wildcats beat NCCU in two contests, 4-2 on March 29, 2011 in Davidson, N.C., and 11-4 on April 26, 2011 in Durham, N.C.

The last time NCCU traveled to Davidson’s home field, the Eagles actually led 2-1 against the Wildcats going into the late innings but could not hang on dropping a 4-2 decision.

The Eagles enter the Tuesday night affair with a 3-13 record overall but are 2-1 in MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) play.  NCCU has won two straight leading into the mid-week battle.

Junior Luis Diaz (Geneva, N.Y.) may have led the squad in the three-game set against NC A&T with six hits and a .462 batting average, but it was sophomore Carter Williamson (Roanoke, Va.) who led the team with four RBI on the weekend.  Despite going 2-for-12 at the dish over the weekend, senior Ross Plummer (Winston-Salem, N.C.) made both count in the clutch with two doubles and three RBI along with two runs scored.

Davidson (4-9, 0-3 SoCon) enters the week on a seven-game losing skid after starting the season 4-2 dropping contests to Ohio, Presbyterian, No. 6 North Carolina, N.C. State, and a three-game sweep at the hands of conference foe Appalachian State.

The Wildcats are led by junior Andrew Barna who tops the team with 16 hits and 10 RBI.  Barna is tied for second on the Wildcat roster with four doubles.  After starting the last eight ballgames senior Calvin Sigelbaum has become the team’s leader with a .357 batting average.

Tuesday night will see junior Jasper Jones (Hookerton, N.C.) go to the hill for his third start of the season.  Jones enters the game with a 0-2 record in 11 innings pitched where he has struck out 12 batters this season and is coming off one of his best performances as an Eagle.  Last Wednesday against Presbyterian where he lasted five-and-one-third innings allowed only three hits and two earned runs despite taking the loss.

Davidson will send left handed freshman Henry Sisson to the hill for his second career start. In 11-and-two-thirds innings pitched during his rookie campaign, Sisson is 0-1 and has allowed eight hits, five earned runs, and recorded nine strikeouts.

Eagle Gameday built by Dayeco Construction Co. will be on the air at 5:45 p.m. as play-by-play voice of the NCCU Sports Network Chris Hooks will call the live action from Wilson Field.  Fans can also stay up-to-date on the eighth meeting between these two programs on Twitter by following @NCCUAthletics and @NCCUradio and by using the hashtag #NCCUBaseball.
